How to analyze your lyrics
Use the lyric analyzer above to explore possible interpretations of your own writing. The analysis is rule-based and may be inaccurate; it cannot determine an artist's intended meaning.
- Enter a song title and paste your lyrics, with one bar per line.
- Choose connected bars, an entire song, or a single bar.
- Select the lines you want to examine and click Interpret selected bars.
- Review the suggested interpretation, write what you intended, and save your notes on this device.

Lyric analysis: meaning, context, and rhyme
A lyric can mean different things depending on the lines around it. For example, “I kept my dreams alive at night” might describe determination, worry, or an actual late-night writing session. The analyzer offers possible readings, not proof of what the songwriter intended.
Look at connected bars
Read the line before and after a phrase before deciding what it means. Repeated images, changes in mood, and contrasts such as night and light can shape an interpretation. Use the Connected bars mode to compare nearby lines, then record your own intended meaning.
Separate lyrical meaning from rhyme technique
Interpretation asks what a line might mean. Rhyme analysis asks how the sounds fit together. For example, “night” and “light” form an end rhyme, while repeated sounds within a bar can create internal rhymes. For longer sound patterns, see our multisyllabic rhyme guide.
Keep control of your work
Machine-generated suggestions may miss metaphors, personal references, or slang. Edit any interpretation to reflect what you actually meant. This tool stores drafts in your browser; export a JSON backup if you want to keep them when browser storage is cleared.
